International cooperation: best practices are implemented in the field

The last days of August were enriched by the visit of specialists who came to the "Center for Quality Assessment of Agricultural Products" to strengthen international relations in the field and familiarize themselves with the work carried out in the food safety system of "Uzagroinspektsiya".

In particular, a delegation headed by the head of the United Nations FAO representative office in Uzbekistan, Sh. Umarov, and Ali Riza Tezcan, the head of the representative office of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Republic of Turkey, visited the Center.

During the meeting, the official representatives visited the laboratory complex of "Uzagroinspektsiya" and got acquainted with the activities of the laboratories. Also, they were introduced to the work carried out in the food safety system of "Uzagroinspektsiya" and presentations were made on the processes of quality assessment and certification of agricultural products. In particular, it was agreed to familiarize the experts of the Center with foreign best practices and improve their skills in the training organized within the framework of the "FOLIO" project on the development of grain production in Uzbekistan, implemented by FAO.

Currently, on the initiative of FAO, a working group on the formation of the project "Implementation of the requirements of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety in Uzbekistan", which is planned to be implemented in 2025, was formed, and two qualified experts were attached to this group by the Center.

With the project, it is planned to introduce the requirements of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety in our country, in which it is envisaged to further strengthen the activities of organizations in the field of GMO, improve the qualifications of specialists and provide laboratories with modern equipment for the field.

Also, in a meeting with the representatives led by Ali Riza Tezcan, the head of the representative office of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Uzbekistan, on June 5-6 of this year, the project of opening the "Uzbek-Turkish seed test center" between the agreements of the meeting of the leaders of the two countries was completed and for the purpose of timely implementation, further expansion of cooperation with the TIKA organization and acceleration of the work to be carried out was envisaged.

At the same time, it was noted that the visit of representatives of various Turkish organizations related to the field to Uzbekistan will be held in September of this year in order to conduct negotiations on the opening of the "Uzbek-Turkish seed test center". During the visit to Uzbekistan, meetings were planned with the relevant organizations of the Turkish side to get to know the industry.

The meetings between the parties ended in a cordial and high spirit.
