The cultivation of imported cotton seeds is under control

Starting from this year, cultivation of foreign varieties and hybrids of cotton has been launched in a number of regions of our Republic as a test.

In the Presidential Decree No. PQ-391 of December 15, 2023 "On additional measures to develop the seed production system in cotton farming and increase cotton productivity", the Inspectorate of Control over the Agro-Industrial Complex - in the cultivation of foreign cotton varieties and hybrids by cotton-textile clusters and farms was assigned the task of carrying out their approval correctly and on time, ensuring the compliance of seed preparation, processing and storage with international standards and technical regulations.

In accordance with the implementation of this decision, systematic control measures are being carried out over the cultivation of varieties and hybrids brought from abroad in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regions by the central apparatus and regional departments of "Uzagroinspektsiya" and its district departments.

Decisions on planting foreign varieties and hybrids of cotton on up to 10 percent of cotton-growing areas under the control of cotton-textile clusters and farms in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regions were made by the governors of the region, proposals for planting foreign varieties and hybrids of cotton on an area of ​​101.4 thousand hectares were developed. To date, 2.4 thousand tons of varieties and hybrids of cotton have been brought to the designated areas, and 4,808 economic entities planted this foreign seed on 95,8 thousand hectares.

A total of 2,200 tons of seeds were used for these areas, and according to our analysis, the average amount is 23.3 kg per hectare.

Until the end of the season, the central apparatus and regional departments of "Uzagroinspeksiya" and its district departments will control the cultivation of foreign varieties and hybrids of cotton cultivated in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and regions.
