More than 376.9 million tons of potatoes are produced annually in 156 countries. Uzbekistan ranks 23rd among these countries. The largest producers are China, India, Russia, Ukraine, USA, Germany, Bangladesh, Poland, France and the Netherlands.

In order to increase the production of consumer and seed potatoes in the Tashkent region, expand cluster and cooperation mechanisms in the field of potato growing, further support the state's implementation of modern technologies, as well as fully satisfy domestic market demand for potatoes, Presidential Resolution No. PQ-4704 was adopted on May 6, 2020. By this decision, 9 districts of the Tashkent region were allocated for growing potatoes, of which 4 districts specialized in growing seed potatoes.
Also, the agro-industrial potato cluster “Agrover”, created in the region by Government Decree No. 193, covers the entire process of potato production from obtaining seeds to deep processing. The cluster uses modern technologies and equipment to optimize production processes, rational and efficient use of land and water resources.
The agro-industrial potato cluster "Agrover" introduced a sprinkler irrigation and mechanization system on an area of 420 hectares.
Consistent research on creating new high-yielding potato varieties and providing farmers with quality seeds is bearing fruit.
At the same time, the Bostanlyg Potato Growing Center, which is part of the cluster, began growing seed potatoes on all plantation areas.
“Fontane”, “Alaska”, “Arizona”, “Alouette”, “Belorossa”, “Silvana”, “Sante”, “Sunita”, “Evolyushin”, “Esmi”, Seeds of 14 varieties, such as Arnova, Manitou, brought and localized.
The implementation of agrotechnical measures during the period from planting to harvesting of these seed potatoes was regularly monitored by the Tashkent regional department and the district departments of the Inspectorate for Control of the Agro-Industrial Complex.
This year in the Tashkent region it is planned to grow potatoes on an area of 14.8 thousand hectares.
Employees of the regional inspection department distributed warning letters to potato-growing district administrations, farms and other agricultural enterprises to stop the import and sale of seed potatoes that do not have a certificate of suitability for planting potatoes. The negative consequences of planting potatoes that do not have a certificate of conformity are explained.
